The increased use of glass in architecture today makes it imperative to consider the comfort of a building's occupants. Solar control glass can be an attractive feature of a building whilst at the same time minimising, or even eliminating the need for an air conditioning system, reducing running costs of the building and saving energy.

Solar control glass can be used to minimise solar heat gain and help control glare. In temperate regions, it can be used to balance solar control with high levels of natural light. Solar control glass can be specified for any situation where excessive solar heat gain is likely to be an issue, eg. bi-folding doors, glass walkways and conservatories.

All products are available in toughened Glass form for safety and security requirements, and can be combined with other benefits such as noise control and self cleaning Products.

How it works

Glass manages solar heat radiation by three mechanisms: reflectance, transmittance and absorptance.

These are defined as follows:

1. Reflectance – the proportion of solar radiation reflected back into the atmosphere.

2. Direct transmittance – the proportion of solar radiation transmitted directly through the glass.

3. Absorptance – the proportion of solar radiation absorbed by the glass.

CGC Softcoat 4 seasons

CGC Softcoat 4 seasons is a conservatory wall glazing solution and can also be used in roof glass combinations. It is a high performance Low E glass which offers a 1.0 U value, combined with a low solar factor of just 43%. CGC Softcoat 4 seasons is quite unique in its performance as it offers an exceptionally low reflection of 17% inside and 19% outside, which is rarely seen in thermally insulating Low E glass providing this level of performance. Designed specifically for Conservatory wall glazing, CGC Softcoat 4 seasons offers the ideal solution to help keep Conservatories cooler in summer and warmer in winter.
